24. The day I felt that my nostalgia for the city of Caserta, where I was born, had shifted to Rome was the day I began to feel that Rome was my home. I was returning from the Turin Book Fair with some people on the train via Rome but continuing to Caserta because I had promised to go and visit.

As the train pulled into Rome I looked at the buildings and felt a strange, special affection for them. As the train pulled out, heading to Caserta, I realised that it was nostalgia. For the first time ever I didn’t want to leave.
